Community Service is one of 5 Avenues of Service for Rotarians.  It covers the projects and activities the club undertakes to improve life in its community.

Within the RCNS. the Community Service Committee (CSC) takes the lead for all community service projcets. Committee members evaluate requests from the community for financial and non-financial support. They coordinate local projects with other clubs to get maximum effectiveness and avoid duplication of projects and programs. Members continually assesses local needs and suggest projects for club involvement. The CSC is also concerned with monitoring and improving the quality of the community’s environment and organizes projects to promote envireonmental awareness, conservation, and education.

Coats 4 Kids

Our Annual Coats for Kids event Saturday Nov 3 was a great success. We estimate 200 coats were handed out in the first 1/2 hour and approximately 400 during the morning plus many awesome knitted mitts and hats to many needy members of our community - it was wonderful to see the joy and hope and thankfulness in so many!

Sunrise Trail Maintenance

Saturday Oct 12 saw a hardworking group of Sunrise Rotarians out on the Norfolk Sunrise trial preparing it for winter. They installed rodent protection and mulch around all the new trees and lifted the plants out of the circular garden, installed agricultural cloth and re-planted the shrubs and covered the area with mulch. Lots of work for a dedicated crew. Don't you love to see Rotarians sweat!!

Norfolk Sunrise Supports Agricultural Awareness

The RCNS is proud to carry on its long tradition of encouraging the importance of Agriculture among Norfolk’s youth by supporting youth programs in this year’s 172nd annual Norfolk County Fair and Horse Show. With a donation of $900, the club has once again supported the Fair’s Ag Awareness program which brings 16000 youngsters from across Norfolk County to the Fair. The program includes presentations on various agricultural commodities, educational displays, question and answer periods, as well as hands on activities and displays providing an important connection for area youth to this significant component of Norfolk’s economy.

Supporting Literacy in Norfolk County

The RCNS provided $600 to assist with cash prizes for Norfolk County Public Library’s 2012 Teens Write for Fun contest.  Norfolk County teens are being encouraged to submit stories and poems until the deadline date in October, with the awards presentation to be held in November.  This is the ninth year for this celebration of teens’ writing, and the Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise has been a sponsor since the early years of the contest.   Lindsay Butler won gold in the Poetry category (ages 16-18 ) for the Teen Writing Contest and recieves her award form Rotarian Nancy Sherwin representing the Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise.
