Eleven teams went eleven rounds At Grate Groan-Up Spelling Bee

Simcoe ON, March 16, 2013     On Wednesday March 6th,  the Royal Canadian Legion in Simcoe was filled with more than 130 spellers and their fans.  Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise, this 6th Annual event raised more than $6000 for local community projects.  The Biker Bees team from Norfolk Association for Community Living (NACL) took home the Best Speller trophy after 11 hard-fought rounds.  The Buzzing Barristers team from Cobb & Jones LLP won prizes for Most Pledges Raised and Best Costume.  The Peng WIN-KIN team, from Women Involved in Norfolk (WIN) won the Best Team Spirit award, and competed with the Biker Bees into the final spelling round.   Runners-up were NACL Biker Bees for costume and The Final Touch Bee Healthy Beeuties team from REACH for team spirit.  This entertaining evening was led by Master of Ceremonies, Gerry Hamill.

The Spelling Bee is a FUN-raiser for the Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise.  Funds raised support community organizations and projects such as the REACH i-Pad program; Big Brothers Big Sisters; the Child Nutrition Network Apple Program; the Norfolk County Fair’s Agriculture Awareness Program; the Turning Point Lending Library; and the Teens Write for Fun Contest sponsored by the Norfolk County Public Library.
