.... one thinks about the story of the boy on the beach throwing starfish back into the surf ... when questioned about the futility of his efforts he noted that he made a difference to 'that one' ...

"I have had the pleasure to present many cheques to various organizations but a recent visit to the Norfolk Community Help Centre afforded me the opportunity to meet and speak with some of the young moms attending the Centre.  Their experience was life changing, having graduated with an OSSD or in the process of completing the required credits.  One mom expressed a goal of becoming a PSW while another is interested in accounting.  These were distant goals if a goal at all until just recently.
Nancy Hilderbrand, Executive Director passed along the following message:
“A huge thank you to the Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise for all they have done to support the Norfolk Community Help Centre.”  The picture is of Room 41, required for the expanded programming made possible by the donation.
“Room 41 (see photo at Read more...) has truly become a community multi-purpose room”.  A partnership with the Salvation Army Tillsonburg has allowed the expansion of the food bank items, assisting 19 families so far and another partnership with Fanshawe College Employment Services to offer free supports and services to our community (resume writing, job searches, skills upgrading, jab placements) are being provided.   Evening courses have started March 20 on Quick Books and more will be added.  Fifteen people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures completed the course utilizing the 15 laptops donated by Fanshawe and the Grand Erie District School Board.  Seven people (staff, volunteers and participants received First Aid & CPR training.
A highlight for the Centre was the hosting of a Tea Party for the Moms & Tots program in the Room 41, with MPP Bobbi Ann Brady and the Director of Education were in attendance to hear about the program and services offered at NCHC.  The MPP spoke about the program at the Legislature.
Mrs. Hilderbrand concluded in saying “None of this could be possible without the support of the Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise!”"
