Dec 18, 2012 : Members of the Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise approved an advance of $6,000 US to the foundation at the Rotary Club of Fountain Hills, in Arizona to support the further development of Micro Bank services in Nogales Mexico. Rotarian Jim Peters noted that the donation will be matched by other Rotary Clubs as well as Rotary International. The funds will be used to expand the Micro Credit Program in Nogales, Mexico.

Senora Montiel (above) first borrowed $600 to advance her jewellery manufacturing business. This year she is able to borrow up to $800 each loan cycle. Next year, with this new injection of funds, she will be able to expand her business even more by borrowing up to $1,000

 
To date: Rotary clubs have invested $178,000 in the Nogales Micro bank project, With this donation coupled with donations from other Rotary Clubs and matching grants from the Rotary Foundation, the project’s Rotary coordinators expect to raise an additional $72,000 making the micro bank will self sustainable. The project will enable 250 families to borrow up to $1,000 each loan cycle and bring them out of poverty.
