Shelterbox is a Rotary success story, and Katherine Neiszer travelled from Oshawa to give Sunrisers an update Tuesday morning.

Shelterbox was begun by a Rotarian over a decade ago in the United Kingdom to provide much needed shelter, supplies and tools to families who have lost their homes. When disaster strikes somewhere in the world, such as with Typhoon Hayan in 2013, as soon as the need is established a shipment of shelter boxes is quickly deployed to that area. Rotary clubs and many other community groups donate funds to stock the shelter boxes. The cost for one box recently increased to $1200.

Shelterbox Canada raised over $1 million in 2013 to send boxes to the Philippines following Typhoon Hayan.  The Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise has been a major contributor.
