The Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise
A Brief History:
On May 16, 1996 The Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise (“Club”) received its Charter from Rotary International and began a record of “Service above Self”. Today, the Club boasts an active membership of more than 50 men and women of different vocations from throughout Norfolk County. The Club undertakes a wide range of community services, both locally and internationally.
Governance:
The Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise was granted its Letters of Patent on June 20, 1997 registered in the Province of Ontario as a not-for-profit organization with the following objectives:
- To encourage and foster high ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying by each Rotarian of his/her occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
- To encourage an foster the application of the ideal of service by every Rotarian to his/her personal, business and community life;
- To encourage and foster the advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional men and women united in the ideal of service.
Subsequently, The Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise established a second entity known as The Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise Fund. The Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise Fund is incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in the Province of Ontario. It is registered with the Federal government as a Registered Charity. As a Registered Charity, it is registered as a Public Foundation under the Income Tax Act (Canada). As a Public Foundation, the entity may issue tax receipts for donations and disburse its funds to other Canadian Registered Charities and eligible recipients pursuant to the rules and regulations of the Income Tax Act (Canada). Between the two corporations, The Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise Rotarians are able to carry out the widest range of activities serving both the local and international communities.
Funds raised by The Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise are spent on local and international Rotary service projects.
Funds raised by The Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise Fund are disbursed both locally and internationally to other Canadian Registered Charities and other eligible recipients pursuant to the rules and regulations of the Income Tax Act (Canada).
