Why would a student from Taiwan want to come to Canada?  Well, to play in the snow and freezing water – duh!

And what are Brian Lee’s most memorable experiences while here?  How about wilderness camping in Algonquin in minus 30 degree weather, or jumping in with the Taiwanese flag to swim with the polar bears at Port Dover on New Year’s.  But the Polar Bear swim wasn’t his biggest shock.  Watching students dance at SCS was a real culture shock!

Brian recounted that school in Ontario is totally opposite to his school upbringing in Taiwan where he attended classes from 7 AM to 9 PM in order to learn enough to be accepted into a good university or college.  Attending classes at SCS was like “being in a North American movie every day.”

Brian was especially thankful for time spent cooking with his counsellor, John Wallace, and for his wonderful host families, the Guilmette’s , Wardell’s, and Millea’s.

Brian Lee is Norfolk Sunrise’s exchange student from Taiwan and has been in Norfolk for almost a year – soon to be heading home. What a treat for our club to have hosted such a delightful young man. In the photo is Brian with his Rotarian Counselor John Wallace.Image
